MRS 1266 Projects problems

Post by jimmy1974 » Tue Nov 20, 2018 8:29 pm

Hi I used to have an MRS 1266 and before moving overseas I did a complete save of everything that was on the HD to my PC-external HD. This was around 10 years ago. About 4 years ago I bought the 16 channel MRS model but soon after sold that too because the projects weren’t fully compatible.
Last night I was trying to use the MRS AFM to open the v-takes but to my horror every project folder has the same 2 files and same sizes.
I’m using a windows 10 pc. I also tried the converter but it’s as if there are no files to open

Please help
59 projects to save
Thanks
J

Are you using the program created by user, CodeKidde? If not you may want to try his program. A link to his website is located on his profile memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=49041. If you are using his program try sending him an email. He is normally pretty responsive.

Visit his website and follow up with an e-mail. Phil doesn't frequent the site as much as he use to and he may not be aware a private message awaits his return.

I am here, but have recently moved jobs 150 miles away from where I live, and my PC is also in hibernation whilst we try and sell the house!!!

My file converter is still available, and there are several threads about it in the forum. Try this one:

File Converter

There is a comprehensive user guide included in the downloaded .ZIP file, but if you still get stuck, then drop me another line, but no guarantee I can answer quickly.

Because I don’t have access to my PC I can’t look at the handbook for your machine, but on my MRS-1044 there is a separate folder for each project with the recording take files. What are the file names of the two files you have? I suspect one is the rhythm.seq file (file name from memory so may be wrong) which holds any rhythm programming with the bass and drums. I can’t remember what the second one does.

Hope this helps.

Thanks codekiddie... I will try the converter you linked... even though I did try a “converter” which looks very similar. And yes one of the files is rhythm.seq. I just find it very odd that all the project folders have exactly the same size files in each folder. I can remember the name of the other file... I’ll check as soon as I get back home.

The real problem seems to be that if there are no other files in the folders, then there are simply no recordings to convert.

well I had already downloaded that program. The 2 files in every project folder are drumkits.zdr and rhythm.seq how is it possible that all my v-takes have disappeared?

So there’s nothing I can do to recover those files?

Been away for just over a week, so not been able to access the PDF for the 1266 until now.

As it states that the audio parts of your project 'takes' are stored in files with a filename of 'TRACKx_x.DAT', it would seem that there is definitely no audio in your folders, so no there is nothing you can do.

I assume that the files don't have the windows 'hidden' attribute set, and your PC is setup to not display hidden files?

Not sure which OS you are using, but on Windows up to Window 7, which is what I am running, then if you are unsure about the setting, then go to a project folder and select 'Folder Options' from the 'Tools' menu. Select the 'View' tab and under 'Hidden files and folders' make sure that 'Show hidden files, folders or drives' is selected. Click 'Apply' to save any changes you had to make and refresh the folder by pressing F5.

If the files are still not showing then they most definitely don't exist on your backup, and sadly it seems that there is nothing you can do.

If there is a possibility that they may have been accidentally deleted, then you could try some file recovery software to see if any files can be recovered. This would only work best if nothing else has been added to the backup since it was originally done, as the space on the drive for the deleted files could have been reused for newer files.

Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news. :(
