Power cuts

Post by flytony » Fri Sep 13, 2013 9:37 am

Hi everyone,
I recently heard on the radio that we may be blessed with the dreaded power cuts in the very near future. I believe I read somewhere a while ago about a unit that can be connected to the power socket, and equipment plugged into the unit, which, in the event of a power cut, stores sufficient power for a minute or so, allowing time to switch off equipment which could be damaged by such an abrupt power loss. Does anybody know of such a unit, and if so, where it could be obtained?

Many thanks. With kind regards. Tony.

I use the CyberPower 1500pflccd for my computers and monitor.

$205
It's probably overkill if you just need it for an MRS unit.
you might look at the CyberPower CP850PFCLCD instead for $125

I ran my MRS-1608 off an APC 'brick' style UPS for several years without issues.
it was similar to this one for $63:
APC Back-UPS ES BE550G 550 VA 330 Watts

Unlike the two listed above, these units don't have 'perfect sine wave' which is required by newer computers and power supplies, but again, should be fine for an MRS unit.

Hi Lucas and thank you for your kind reply to my question regarding trying to keep my MRS recorder safe in the eventuality of a power cut. As I require it only to safeguard the MRS I think I'll opt for the cheaper version. Sounds like it will be perfect for my needs. Once again many thanks for taking the time to supply me the info. With kind regards. Flytony.
