"KITFILE ERROR" MRS1608
I've partially resurrected a dead MRS1608 whose hard drive was shorting the power bus.
I've replaced the hard drive, Formatted the new drive using the inbuilt utility and copied over the zex file and now the mrs boots but shows KITFILE ERROR at startup.
I can create new projects, but at close down I get the same KITFILE ERROR.
I'm a bit of a noob - can anyone offer some advice? [please be kind]

Hi,
I would suggest setting up the drive with the Factory CD instead of the built-in utility.
I think the built-in utility is more for just refreshing a working drive.

Thanks for the response, Lucas
Have requested a factory cd from Zoom support but as yet it hasn't arrived
I had to replace the completely dead hard drive and didn't have a recovery cd
anyone else have any ideas? I wondered if I could copy the disc structures from my MRS 1266 but leave the working zex file in place and if that would get me going?

I don't think it will hurt anything to try, but can't say for sure.LeroyP wrote:I wondered if I could copy the disc structures from my MRS 1266 but leave the working zex file in place and if that would get me going?
are the file extensions all the same (like ".ZEX", etc.)?
if they are, then the 1266 and the 1608 likely use the same file structure and formatting.
If that's the case, first try copying over any files missing on the 1608 that are on the 1266 and test.
also, the hard drive on the 1608 is split into 2 partitions
MRS-FAC
MRS-USR
look a the 1266's drive. If it has these 2 partitions and the same set of files on it, then you might be able to just 'clone' that drive and use the clone to image the 1608's drive.
If not, both of those partitions need to be formatted using FAT32 and a specific Allocation Unit size. (this might be the default size when formatting in in Windows, not sure).

Just got an email from zoom UK support containing a link to factory recovery cd images. Phew!
Copied over the disk contents from cd and all sorted
.. 1266 structure still gave KITFILE errors....

Hi, I just got one of these in need of TLC. I found an identical model HDD second hand formatted to FAT. I need the Factory Recovery Disk. After several hours of internet searching it seems there are still other people out there who need or needed this, but I can't find an ISO disk image or the files online anywhere. If anyone on this forum has them, could they kindly post them up somewhere.
Cheers

Hi RedSquare,
Contact Zoom support and they should send you a replacement CD or, more likely, provide you a link where you can download a CD image file. Then you will need to do a search to find instructions to create a recovery CD.

Re: "KITFILE ERROR" MRS1608
Thanks for the reply. I live in Tokyo so I called the main Zoom office. They advised me to go to a shop that sells their gear, so I went to Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara. The guy in the large DJ section then phoned up Zoom main office. Zoom asked him to pass the phone to me, they took my address and said they will send me the disk.
So, a bit of a run around, but hopefully the disk will turn up.
I will upload the ISO of it somewhere and post a link here.
Now, where to get some replacement fader caps?
