All flavors of Zoom MRS gear discussed here, including MRS-8, 1044, 1266, 1608, etc.

Who else still uses MRS series esp 1608?

Post by Dino-songwriter » Mon Jul 24, 2017 1:00 pm

:D
Reaching out to others on this
Songwriter etc using this old deck
Wondering if others do
Move between DAW garageband and this
But very curious about features even if they are old

Like copying
Midi use ( I use a presonus audio 2 by 2 also older )
To get the midi to the daw since I have no Usb:(

Main interest is that signal input seems very weak when going direct without really jacking up signal with eq
Or preamps etc

Anyone else
Chime in and let's help each other

Thanks

Greg,

I use a Zoom MRS-8 my wife purchased in 2007 as a refurbished unit. I'm glad to report works as good now as it did when I received it as a Christmas gift.

I haven't noticed weak signal input. The gain of my MRS-8 dual inputs has remained consistent throughout the time I've had it. I have noticed though that how much input trim gain is needed is heavily dependent on whichever signal chain algorithm is selected. Some selections I can set the trim pot to about the 10 or 11 o'clock position and with other selections the trim pot needs to be changed to the 3 to 4 o'clock position. I've discovered the need to create the habit of checking input trim anytime I change algorithm or a setting inside an algorithm. I also check the input trim after changing pickup selection or tone on a guitar or change microphone position. All my external mics are dynamic or USB powered so they either connect to the MRS-8 or computer USB port. I have two electric guitars with one having passive, single coil pickups and the second an active line level output.

Jim
Thanks so much for the detail
I think I'll check the manual
I use xlr and old (very old like me) sm58
Mike's - but maybe I need to explore but the
Front 2 inputs need to be cranked as does the channel volume I am recording on

Really really glad you responded
Wish I had Usb but the presonus does a decent job
Just need to send signal tracks out to the daw
Though I'm probably missing something there too

Dino-songwriter,

This is a silly question but I've always believed if you don't know the answer, but want an answer, no question is silly. Your MRS-1608 uses a hard drive for storage, correct? Since your unit does not have the USB option how do you export project tracks? Do you have to burn the tracks to a CD? Is there an alternative method of digital transfer? Will the cd burner work with read/write CDs or do the blanks have to be of the one use only variety?
