MRS-802 cd burner

"NO CD-R
DRIVE"
This is the prompt I get when pressing the CD-R/RW button. Is my burner dead ?
I first thought it was a CD door / carriage issue, but the prompt says otherwise.
I opened it, looking for bad connection or any other visible problem....no joy.
If a replacement burner is needed, can anyone please guide my to the place to find one ?

I found a # matching burner...$20
Put in the replacement...now the prompt reads; Int HD/error
Nothing powers up. It seems these two are not playing well together.

Check the voltages for the compact disc player and hard drive. The best way is with the power off, unplug one of the white, four pin connectors to either device. Power up the MRS-802 then use a voltage meter to measure the dc voltages that should be present on the four pins.

IDE Power Connector Pin-Out
Pin # Signal Function Wire Color
1 +12V DC Yellow
2 +12V Return Black
3 +5V Return Black
4 +5V DC Red

Additional note: As far as I know the cd burner and hard drive are the only two components that use the +12V DC. The only other thing I can think of that MIGHT use +12V DC is whatever generates phantom power. The values for both the +12V DC and +5V DC should be close; i.e. +12V DC might read 11.99V DC or 12.01V DC. If the voltages check out the next possibilities are bad IDE ribbon cable or bad board. The plastic insulation of the ribbon cable "dries out" and becomes brittle over time. The circuit board the ribbon cable plugs into has the IDE circuitry needed to communicate and operate the hard drive and cd burner.

did you make sure to set the Maste/Slave jumper on the CD Burner to the same setting the old one had?
