USB & Hard Drive Replacement guide by Chisel
Instead of replacing your hard drive with another IDE drive, please check out Chisel's guide for replacing the hard drive with a Compact Flash card using a CompactFlash to IDE adapter.
Be advised that although this can be a simple procedure, successful results depend on the right CF-to-IDE adapter & CompactFlash card combination.

Using the AUDIO FILE MANAGER (AFM) to convert to WAV/AIFF fi

Post by lucas » Tue Nov 18, 2008 10:08 pm

The AFM can be used to mix tracks.
Why they made it that way, I'm unsure, but makes for a poor DAW and makes using it a bit confusing.
If you are hearing more than one track in the exported file, you are likely selecting more than one track to be exported.
For exporting, the buttons are slightly different shades of blue for selected & unselected.
When importing the button is red as in 'recording'.

Again, in terms of the Audio File Manager, you are 'importing' when convert a file to the MRS format and into the MRS track/V-Track for use on the MRS.
You are 'exporting' when converting from the MRS to WAV or AIFF for use in a computer DAW

export = for use on the computer
when exporting, you select the track & V-Track then navigate in the box on the right side of the AFM to the folder where you want the Exported WAV/AIFF to be.
then you click on the 'export' button and wait for it to finish.

Import = for use in the MRS
when importing, you select the track & V-Track then you click on the 'import' button & navigate in the box that pops up to the folder where the WAV/AIFF you want to import are stored..
Select the files, click O.K., etc. and wait for it to finish.

STEP by STEP GUIDE
==================
The Guide assumes you want to take tracks from a project on the MRS and convert them to WAV (PC) or AIFF (Mac) files that will then be used in your DAW.
If that is correct then you will be using the AFM to export (convert) the MRS tracks to WAV (PC) or AIFF (Mac) files.
NOTE: From this point on, Mac users need to substitute PC for Mac and WAV for AIFF.

I am next assuming you are using the USB method to transfer the MRS files to your PC.
NOTE: - if you use the CD backup method to transfer, remove the 'backup.inf' file from project(s) folders on your computer
Assuming the USB transfer method is used, you would:

01) - Create two folders on your PC. name one 'MRS Dump' and name the other 'WAV Dump'
02) - Connect to the MRS & copy one entire project folder from the MRS 1044 into the 'MRS Dump' folder on the PC.
EXAMPLE: copy the mrs folder named 'PROJ005' & with all of it's contents to the MRS Dump folder on the PC.
03) - disconnect from the MRS
04) - open the AFM and use the navigation box on the right to locate and select the project folder in the 'MRS Dump' folder.
05) - once the project folder is selected, buttons for the available V-Takes for each track will appear.
06) - click on the first track # to be exported and then first V-Take for that track number. only ONE track button and ONE V-Take button should be selected per export or conversion.
NOTE: Track #'s are the numbered blue buttons in the column on the left. V-Takes for each track are in the row next to that track.
07) - Track buttons turn a shaded blue when selected. V-Take buttons look pushed in when selected, but it's very subtle, watch carefully as you push one on & off.
08) - use the play button (next to the slider looking thing near the bottom) to hear the track. if you hear anything else besides the track, it means you have something selected in addition to it.
09) - let it finish playing and if it sounds right, then click on the export button.
10) - navigate in the dialog box that pops up to the folder called 'WAV Dump'. give the file a name (like TEST_01.WAV) and click the save button. It should finish exporting in a moment or two.
11) - close the AFM and open up the 'WAV Dump' folder in windows as you would normally.
12) - you should now have a WAV file in that folder. It is this file that you will bring in (or 'import') to your DAW, such as Reaper, Mixcraft, Sonar, Acid, Cakewalk, etc..
not sure how your DAW does this, but most seem to do this just by dragging & droppping the WAV file onto a 'track' in the DAW.

Codekiddie's Zoom-to-WAV converter:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16179
This is a replacement for Zoom's MRS AFM & Card Manager.
It's much faster and allows you to convert the whole project at once.

Codekiddie's Rhythm converter:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16313
This will generate a MIDI file from your Zoom project.
The MIDI file can then be loaded into you DAW of choice.
