Grandma Melonhead wrote:To be clear, I wasn't talking about his soundtracks but about his songs for musicals. I quite liked the songs he wrote (and sang) for "Willy Wonka", but I couldnt hum a one of them after watching the movie. That's all I mean.
yes, I guess I'd have to agree.
in fact I didn't remember that there were any songs in the burton version.
BTW, if you'd like to check out the tracks I mentioned, they're available here:
other LPs and songs are available there as well.

Cool. I'm working on my 1 minute song with a place in the title.

I'm about half-way through this episode and you guys go and release another one! ARGH! I hate vacations and catching up on all these podcasts!
Geez, what a great show! I think I'm up to Melon's third tune or maybe Albert's tune about now - I've been just floored by the quality, creativity and general fun sonic yumminess of this episode! What a great idea. I gotta say, I think you guys have unlocked some really cool thing here.
Re: the Elfman debate. I'm, personally a big fan of Danny, but I gotta agree with GM, that his score writing is a bit formulaic and can be unmemorable. I liked the Wonka stuff, but my all-time favorite score/musical that he wrote has to be Nightmare Before Christmas - THOSE are catchy tunes.
Check out the Oingo Boingo stuff - not really textbook songwriting, but lots of ear-candy in there. They were the musician's cult band of the '80's with a couple of "hit" songs....
