+1 It'll look just like a new one without the huge expense!

Although, I do sympathize - there's nothing like satisfying the lust for brand new gear.... {drool}

The Strat has a contoured body.
the most important aspect of this is that contour or 'depression' in the upper area of the back makes the guitar more comfortable while it's pressed against your side as you play.
It makes pretty big difference for me in contrast with a normal tele body.
The squarish edge of a normal tele body really seems to dig into my lower ribs.

Ahh, yes. I will have to check. I think it is because it felt really comfortable. I know what you are talking about now.

Anemones - Half Acre Day. Good song and has something that makes it seem more pro, but I also hear what y'all mean about it sounding really loud or oddly EQ'd or something. Can't place it. Enjoyed the song a lot, which is the main thing.

You Believe In Me - Hoo Hoo Nick. Cool!

Gone Away - Joe Pop Terrific. Really, really enjoyed this.

I want to see a picture of Dave's ugly guitar.

Just popping in to say I liked the podcast - I really fall behind on these things over the summer ;-)

Now I'll have even less time as I rock the sixty one.

Lucas: my G&L Tele is NOT a contoured back. Now that is going to bug me. :)

Ok, so maybe my Electra Phoenix guitar isn't THAT bad, but it just seems 80's to me.:)

Here it is, from the web. This is my exact guitar:

As the Rolling Stones have suggested time and time again, Paint It Black.

Crid, don't let it bug you, didn't you say it was comfortable to play?
That's the only reason to have the contour body and they're usually more expensive than the standard body, so you're actually better off! :D

go all out and with black and white tape and Eddie-fi it! ;)
you could always just strip it down an repaint it or have it repainted, but if it plays well, you should probably just leave it alone, since that's all that matters.

My nephew got an Ibanez similar to that back in the early nineties, his had a Floyd Rose style bridge though.
Someone had sprayed it with the fake green granite textured paint that was popular back then.
it was was kind of cool, but it started to chp off and added unnecessary weight to the guitar, so eventually he removed and it felt like a whole new guitar to him.

Man, leave that River Pheonix, er Electra stock, man.
It's gonna be worth a lot someday....well, maybe.
Seems they are now Pawn Shop treasures. Hope you have a nice case for it.
Very cool electronics to boot.

Electra made a whole ton of guitars going back to the early 70's and they were all pretty good actually. They made copies of just about everything; kind of like Rondo these days. I already replaced the pickups with Seymour Duncan 59's, which I love. That made a huge difference actually. I don't want the stock pickups back. :)

The electronics ARE great. It is well grounded and it has push pull switches on all three knobs. It was a heck of a job to get those new pickups in there (which I did myself) because there is a coil tap on the top knob, on/off for the middle pickup on the middle knob and a reverse polarity for the lead pickup on the bottom knob. Very versatile sounding guitar because of that!

Maybe I DO like this guitar after all. :)

I really should have gone into the management of artists. :D

Might White produce the Stones record? “I couldn’t fuel that rumor any more than to say Jack and I are in touch,” says Richards.

If Keith Richards has his way, the Rolling Stones will start working on a new record next year. “I’m trying to gather the boys together,” he tells Rolling Stone. “One way or another, I’ll get them back in line.” In the meantime, the guitarist recently recorded songs with Jack White. “I enjoy working with Jack,” Richards says. “We’ve done a couple of tracks.”

Thank you for all the great comments on here about Gone Away and a thank you to Tony for playing it. I recently started my own business and (as you can imagine) it has been very time consuming. I am hoping that I will get some free time back again once we get things rolling smoothly and I will have more music time. My daughter and I started our own electronic service company called The Electronics Doctor, L.L.C. (website at www.theelectronicsdoctor.com). Right now I am trying to get set up with Fender, Line 6 and others as a warranty servicer. I have been a Gold level Fender tech since 2001. Right now we are doing everything, TVs, computers, home audio, etc, to see where the money will be. It is my hope to focus on the music electronics and continue to go in that direction, as that is what I would most enjoy doing. We are right around the corner from the Detroit Guitar Center store and would be their closest service center. It's great to be my own boss again but it means you can never sit down. There is always something that needs your attention. Hopefully, I will have the time to get back on this forum soon. Until then, I will, at least try to catch the show. I can play the show out loud at work now. I'm the boss.
