H4n Pro MTR recording question

Post by songman » Fri Dec 30, 2016 2:51 pm

I am on the verge of buying an H4n Pro and would like to make sure of the following. Can I:

1. record mono on track 1 with built-in-mics
2. listen to track 1 and record mono on track 2, always with the built-in-mics
3. listen to tracks 1 and 2 and record mono on track 3, always with the built-in-mics
4. listen to tracks 1, 2 ,3 and record mono on track 4, always with the built-in-mics.

I do not want to have to use the XLR inputs and external mics at any stage.

Thanks for clarification!

Cheers, Bob.

Have you downloaded the manual yet? It's available in PDF form.

Page 20 (MTR mode) is a bit vague with the "for stereo input select MIC or 1 and 2"/"for mono input select either 1 or 2" -- which, on one hand could imply that MIC is always a stereo mode... But the associated track select implies one can force the stereo input source into a mono track. Page 54 is more definite that a stereo source (MIC) will be mixed down to mono if only one track is armed for record.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I had downloaded the manual and it is precisely because of the vagueness in the manual that I asked the very precise question above. Thanks for your help!

Cheers, Bob.
