Hi all,

The manual mentions creating marks on a track. You can scroll through the marks as well but can track marks be removed/edited?

Thanks

Not to my knowledge.

Track marks are "blips" (data segments) inserted into a stream during the recording process. Removing or changing them essentially requires rewriting the recording from the point of change to the end of the file.

Interesting, I always considered them to be metadata somewhere added at the end/beginning of the file but apparently that's not the case.

They may be "metadata", but WAV format files are containers that can hold different chunks of data. The length of chunks is stored at the beginning of each chunk, along with ID code for the chunk, and the full file length at the beginning. Storing a variable number of marks at the beginning would require the device to either reserve space for the maximum number of marks first, and then back-fill (and you don't want to do that as each mark is created -- flash memory can't be modified in place, rather an allocation unit [often larger than file system blocks] has to be freed, ERASED, mapped into the file, and data copied from original allocation unit with changed data merged in). Similarly, storing them at the end requires the device to maintain an in-core array of the data -- and also requires devices playing back to read the entire file to find the marks.

I'll concede -- I could be wrong -- but would have to do a hex-dump of a file containing marks to confirm. Granted, inserting a mark in-line may still require a small amount of back-filling to put in the closed chunk's size.
