Re: HD16
Fantastic information folks. I love my HD...it is nice to know that It has a future...especially that it can run an SSD . I have bookmarked this page and will continue to check back....I look forward to the photos if you ever get around to it gtrdrt.
Also in answer to the guy who asked about a DAW and drums....I use REAPER...It is ridiculously good....ADDICTIVE DRUMS has a demo that is largely functional and will allow you to get a pretty good drum thing happening.

The Bracket is "Slim Optical & 3.5in Hard Drive Mounting Bracket for 5.25in Front Bay Star Tech Part# SLIMCDFDCAGE"

I had to reopen the HD16 and retake all pictures, I took pictures from begining to end however all these pictures vanished from the sdcard
, I will post a parts list and more pix soon, need to clean up first.

That really is a bummer, how I would have loved to see them.rx1999 wrote:I took pictures from begining to end however all these pictures vanished from the sdcard
I take it you tried several DVD drives and this was one of the few that was detected?
I love this solution because you can now have several SSD's to work with, maybe a little more expensive than SDcards but still

I know, Nothing as Good as The First Time. I just need to reorganized the new pix. I hope to do another upgrade for a friend once he gets his HD16, now that I know what to expect will be easier to document.
Yes, DVD drives were tricky, good thing I had a few to test with. Really wanted a slot loaded one but none work need utitlity software to change there jumper settings.
SSD's are getting cheaper these days, and are definitely more reliable then SD / CF cards, for no reason they just quit on you.

Re: HD16
Thanks for all the valuable info rx1999
Not sure if anyone's still interested but since SSD drives have become so cheap I've decided to replace my HD16 drive with a 128GB SSD drive.
I've seen 2 kinds of adapters on eBay: IDE to SATA with a power connector and IDE to SATA without a power connector.
Just wondering how these adapters which don't have a power connector can deliver power to the SSD?
Anyone have an idea?

Re: HD16
I've just installed an SSD with iDE to SATA adapter (IDE cable reconfigured and adapter set to master) but when I boot from CD and try to do a restore it fails
Is it necessary to clone the drive first? I was hoping I could just format and restore using the CD.

Yes, should be able to restore from CD, however only had success using this adaptor Kingwin
after trying ~10 different adaptors the Kingwin did the job, also the type of SSD not all worked.
See link below for the IDE to SATA adaptor.
Also, my setup is completely different I removed the original CDROM and used that space to fit a Slim DVD and
a removable case for a 2.5" HDD/SDD.
http://www.microcenter.com/product/3171 ... idge_Board
"Kingwin SATA to IDE Bridge Board"
Jumper set to A-B IDE to SATA
The adaptor can be either master or slave depending on the setting on the CDROM drive

Re: HD16
Thank God you're still here rx1999!
I was affraid no-one could help me anymore and while this topic has been of great help (thanks to you!) there were still some loose ends. I wasn't sure if the CD utility would be able to format a blank hard drive so I already was looking for options to buy an external IDE enclosure to clone the IDE HDD to my SATA drive but I'm glad you just told me it can be done by using the CD utility.
I also didn't know it was picky on which IDE to SATA adapter would work so I just bought one that had a Master/Slave selector and thought I'd be OK.
Now let's just hope my SSD won't give me any problems. If I'd known all this before, I'd probably had left everything like it was...

Re: HD16
I'm still around,
are you still using the old IDE cable? because that cable is setting the master and slave, if you look closely there is a small puncture on the of the strand don't recall exactly. probably why master and slave jumper won't work on the adaptor, try another cable(new type) different jumper setting for the CDROM drive.
