R8 Live Performance/Playlist/Footswitch

Post by jjo » Sat Jul 08, 2017 8:15 am

Hello. I created a playlist for live performance backing tracks, but the footswitch has no effect (set to start/stop).
It works perfectly on individual Projects.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

Page 113 (foot switch control) of the R8 operation manual indicates the correct setting is called "Play/Stop". There is not a setting for Play/Pause and a setting like that is what you need. But even if you had such a setting it might not work as the settings seem to be focused on projects, not playlists.

An interesting test would be to try one of the "PatchUp" or "PatchDown" settings while in playlist mode.

To add an hypothesis... If the foot-switch, in Play/Stop mode, effectively acts like the |> and [] buttons, then the "hint" on page 98 may apply:
|> Play from beginning of CURRENT project
[] Stop playback AND RETURN TO BEGINNING of CURRENT project.

What happens if you wait for the transition to the NEXT project to occur, and THEN hit the foot-switch, rather than hitting the switch at the end of the first project before the second starts.

If that works, you may in the future want to start each project with a "roger beep" followed by a few measures of silence. That way you could hit the foot-switch when you hear the beep (granted, you probably don't want it to be too loud, as the reset to beginning of project means you'll hear the beep again when you "resume" the project).

Thank you. I ran through every possible setting to test, but no luck.

Great idea - sadly it did not work.
Anybody got any suggestions for a start/pause playlist for a pianist (thus the footswitch)

Not changing patches pretty much proves the R8 does not respond to the foot switch while playing the songs on a playlist.

So, here is another way to approach the problem. Copy all your completed song projects into one song project then use the foot switch "Play/Stop" command while playing the consolidated song project.

Assume you have five songs. Master each of the five songs to a stereo track. Export each stereo track master to your computer. Use the R8 to format a new SD card. Create a new song project on the new card. On your computer use Audacity, Wavesour or a daw to combine all five stereo master tracks into one continuous stereo track. I would leave about one or two seconds of silence between each song. Import the combined stereo track onto a stereo track of the new project of the new card. You already know "Play/Stop" works when you're working inside a project so combine all the songs into one song project.
