Phantom Power on R24
I've read somewhere I think that unlike my R16 an R24 can have phantom power on all 8 inputs. Tracks 9 - 16 and 17 -24 if I remember correctly.
Can anyone confirm this and have they used this facility?

Re: Phantom Power on R24
Tracks don't matter -- phantom power is provided by the pre-amps located with the input jacks themselves.
However (manual page 10) only INPUTS 3-8 can have phantom power.
NORMAL mode only applies phantom power to INPUT 5&6; see manual page 104 for instructions on how to activate the pairs 3&4 and 7&8 (I believe these are still affected by the master phantom power switch; the menu only controls which of the three pairs of inputs are being controlled by the master).

Re: Phantom Power on R24
Thanks Wulfraed,
I've been considering buying another recorder as a spare. I really want a stand alone recorder as my experience with the R16 suggests it's the most trouble free way of making location recordings.
I can't find anything reasonably priced here in the UK that will record more than 8 inputs at once.
I'm not particularly interested in the R24 built in drum machine.

Hello Jim,
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I don't have a mixer with line outs.

And if you did -- the question of phantom power wouldn't come up <G>mikethebass wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 4:57 amHello Jim,

The ICE-16 page emphasizes "line level" (which may even mean professional line-level, which is some 10+dB hotter than consumer level). So likely doesn't have enough gain for microphone level, much less phantom power on those inputs.

The specs, pros and cons of the ICE-16 are outlined here: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/allen-heath-ice-16

And about a third of the way down is
... close to my estimate of 10dB given above.the ICE 16 outputs to a semi-professional device will result in signals being about 8dB hotter than the user might typically expect.

Other than the ICE-16, neither can I.I can't find anything reasonably priced here in the UK that will record more than 8 inputs at once.
