zoom HD16 needing repair

Post by Wjammin » Sat Feb 03, 2018 8:13 pm

Hey everybody, I am trying to find some info on an authorized repair facility in the U.S. for my HD16. If anyone knows of a reputable repair service, I would really appreciate some contact information. On an earlier thread I posted, the details ('no audio in or out') are included about the issues with this unit. Thanks in advance for any help. These units are hard to come by in my experience. I figured it might (hopefully) be more cost effective to fix this one, instead of looking for another one... I really like Zoom Gear, especially the HD16. Thanks

Samson Technology http://www.samsontech.com/support/ use to be the only U.S.A distributor of Zoom products. In addition to distribution Samson provided warranty and depot repairs. All that changed when Zoom decided to open an office and provide support for their products. Zoom does not repair products but instead has a replacement warranty policy.

Samson is located in New Jersey. Contact information is located on the front web page.

In my opinion your best bet is to let a local electronic technician look it over.

Hello again, I have the unit apart and have removed the main board. I determined something had been spilled onto the top of the recorder. After opening it up, the liquid (Coffee or soda) had dripped onto the main PC board, and one of the ribbon connectors was fried, so I unsoldered the connector. It will need replacing. Also, a few other components (resistors, capacitors) may be as well. Ok, my question is would it be more advisable to replace the board, or repair this one. If any one here knows any source for replacement parts or has any other comments, I certainly welcome any info. I work with very knowledgeable techs and engineers, so we are going to replace a couple of ribbon cables and whatever else is bad upon testing. None of the other boards look to be affected. But not having a schematic is crippling, as you well know. Thanks for everone's help on this.

The only known source for parts is probably cannibalized units found on eBay... IE: look for misfunctioning units and hope what is left is good for swapping...

Thanks Wulfraed, that crossed my mind. It may be a waiting game, but I have time. Hopefully I can get this one working again after some board repair...

I've seen two show up at local, but different, Goodwill stores. Both stores had them priced at $399! Neither store really understood what they had. Funny thing is one of the stores also had a 48 channel Yamaha mixing desk console and they only wanted $100 for it because it was dirty and missing some fader knobs! The HD-16s were clean, not missing any parts and powered up.
