HD16 Factory Recovery CD

Post by DavidS » Tue Aug 14, 2018 5:08 pm

Hi all, I've just acquired a hd16 with slightly failing hard drive i tried emailing zoom about recovery cd's, their reply was no can do, hd16 is just too old. So i'd thought i'd ask on here if anyone has a recovery cd for HD16 that they can do an iso of, and upload to somewhere, please message me if you can, thanks

I'm surprised. The need for a factory recovery CD seems to come across this forum fairly often. Zoom N-A no longer provides replacement CDs but support has provided recovery cd iso files numerous times.

You could try the firmware update, not sure if that will work: https://www.zoom-na.com/products/produc ... #downloads
If someone has the iso file I'll be happy to host it here on the forum.

Got a defect Zoom HD16 free from a guy.
Is the firmware on zoom's website the complete OS for a new disk?

No, Firmware is a very small program burned into a programmable chip. Firmware tells the main board of the HD 16 what hardware to look for (hard drive, CD drive, surface controls, display) and what error code to display if the hardware is not found. If all the hardware is present, firmware directs the main board of the HD 16 to find and load the operating system program. The bios program on a computer motherboard is an example of firmware you might be familiar with.

The program contained on the hard drive is the system operating system. The operating system responds to user inputs, displays information and dictates how and where the digital recording signal is collected and stored.

The HD 16 Factory Recovery CD likely contains multiple programs for diagnostics, installation programs to update firmware and the operating system as well as the firmware and operating system installation files.

Once you have access to the ISO file you can use a CD burner and CD burner program to burn a CD. However, CD burners are becoming increasing rare on computers, sort of like a floppy disk drive.
