A-B Repeat and recording

Post by sciurius » Thu Mar 21, 2019 4:09 pm

When the R24 is repeating an A-B section, it seems that it is still possible to record by pressing and holding the REC key.
I cannot find anything about that in the documentation.
Anyone ever tried this?

The MRS-8 I have lets me record if I press and hold the record button, but, it works only if I have pre-selected (armed) a track for recording.

Yes. It seems it is like "Manual Punch-In/Punch-Out" (p. 30, R24 manual) and also works during A-B Repeat playback. Nice.

If you think about it, you are performing a manual punch-in/punch-out. The difference is the transport is automated while the punching is manual. It is a neat feature. Unfortunately I haven't had much success with manual punch-in/punch-out. On the MRS-8 the recorder picks up the sound of pressing the record key. However I don't experience the issue when I automate punch-in and punch-out.

Yes, that's the same on the R24 (when microphones are involved). I make the A-B section a bit wider so I have room to cut out the clicks.

I use this 'feature' for overdub voices, that need to be precisely in sync with the lead voice. I set the track to "Always New" and repeatedly try the overdub until it is in sync, then start recording a couple of times.
