are.there aftermarket chargers..

Post by robertdonithan » Tue Dec 06, 2016 9:14 pm

With the help of the zoom g5n as an interface with cubasele8 (it came with the pedal) i am using those into a laptop. The laptop has a 3 pronged double insulated charger. (replacement charger)The charger causes problems with powered monitors..I asked around other forums how to solve this, and they answered it..Don't plug in the charger when using recording equipment..It worked...but if there are aftermarket chargers out there that won't cause the noise problems I would appreciate someone telling me..my laptop is a Dell E6410...thanks...

Does your powered monitors have one power connector per monitor or one power connector for both monitors? Do the monitor power cords have two or three prongs? Are your monitor audio cables intermingled with your laptop charger cabling? Is your replacement laptop charger laptop connector round with a pin in the center (similar to a cable connection but plastic)?

I've seen Dell laptop specific replacement chargers at computer repair stores. They are not the same as a generic charger you might pick up at a BestBuy. Just like the original charger they have a center pin connection so the charger and laptop charging circuit can communicate with each other.

Yes one connection per monitor..they have three prongs connected to the same powerstrip..the laptop is connected on the other side of the room..the charger connector is metal with a plastic insulator and a pin in the center..
I was thinking that maybe they make one with a two prong wall socket cord that maybe would break up the ground loop that's causing the noise..if there is such a thing...

Does this mean it will eliminate the ground loop interference?

Guess what fellas!!
Old school..read it on other forums and even Wikipedia..use a cheater plug...three prong to two prong adapter...89cents at home depot...they do this in recording studios when hum shows up...tried it and it worked. ..they make two prong replacement chargers for my laptop, so what's the difference?...save $20.00..
