ZOOM G1ON Revisited...

Post by Know-dem-scales » Wed Jun 28, 2017 10:49 am

I just bought one and I have to say I am crazy impressed. Not sure how any people still visit here. I would like a lot of advice from anyone that has toyed around with this unit.

Many thanks.

If you are using this for live use in front of an amp, here is how I set it up!
Set tuner on bypass take a patch ,let's say A1 remove all the effects from it .
Toggle back and forth with tuner to get a clean sound that matches tuner volume, I added a little compression and reverb.
Then copied that to the next 20 patches.
Since I am going front of amp I dont use any amp or cab sims.
Then on every other patch I add whatever stomp boxes I need in the chain so I am always one stomp away from my clean sound.
If I add a Tube screamer I will put noise reduction right after then reverb or delay afrer NS so it doesnt cut the tails thenI putA graphic EQ on all patches and drop the 3 highest bands 8khz, 10 khz, 12khz all the way to the bottom cause those frequencies have no business coming out of a guitar amp, boost or cut the rest to taste. I gig with this Fischer-Price looking pedal all the time !

At first I was primarily using the rhythms and looper for practice. then i realised some of the amp models are very good when using it with headphones so now I dont use my guitar amp with it. I use a strat copy (Aria STG-003). I play mostly clean to mild gain so I have made my own patches with the Fender FD, Match 30, Vox, the two lowest gain Marshall ones, Hiwatt Stack and the Carr drive. Plus I find the two pre-supplied acoustic sim patches useable.
Among the crazier sounding pre-supplied patches, I think patch G9 ('Supernova' I think) is the most mind boggling.
My plan is to use it with either a compact Speaker/PA/Acoustic amp like a Laney Audiohub in the future for small gigs eg church:
[G1on: {amp model ---> Reverb --> Speaker simulation]---> PA/Acoustic amp
