Amp, Guitar, and Effects

Post by surfercook » Thu Feb 23, 2017 11:44 am

I had my Fender Deluxe Reverb Amp overhauled recently at a not so thrifty cost of $600! Also had my Gibson ES135 setup w/the works which included fret leveling and dressing, ground wire issue addressed, custom bone nut fabricated and installed, intonation set, and new flat wound strings installed. My rig is golden and everything plays and sounds great. My next step is to acquire some effects. I think I want to go digital. Analog pedals would be nice but the digital route just seems easier.
Curious what everyone thinks of these units and maybe any other suggestions you might have. There are just so many options and I'm leaning towards a single stomp box as opposed to a floorboard unit.
Thanx,
Marc

I pulled the trigger in a used Line 6 FX100. $155 shipping included. Can't wait to get my hands on the thing. It's super modern w/bluetooth control w/an app.

Marc,

Very nice selection. It's neat how it can read the meta data available for each song in your music library and use the information to recommend signal chain setting selections uploaded by fellow users.

I'd like to know if you have issues with Line 6 transferring ownership. At one time Line 6 would not accept ownership claims beyond the original equipment owner so it was difficult to participate in online activities.

My take on digital effects. They take tweaking to achieve the sound you're hearing in your head, but it can be done.

I got it to connect w/my son's Samsung tablet and my Galaxy7 via Bluetooth! Very cool! Out of the 25 banks available there is only one User Bank (25) to construct your own tones/patches! The editor has a bunch of Line6 jam tracks and you can also stream your own library content through the unit.
Managed to build, save, and publish a tone to The Cloud. Also tested out the tuner. The Bluetooth is not 100% reliable though. Cuts out occasionally but not too bad. The pedal is really nice to have( both wah and vol).
I haven't tried registering it yet. Guess I better do that.

Bluetooth in general is great when it's working, and then comes the random oddness. I'm surprised it's lasted this long as a standard.

The Bluetooth connection was really strong my last session. It held the entire time. I did a reset and pedal calibration on the fx100 right before and it really helped I think. It's kind of a pain and you lose any tones that you've loaded on the hardware but they can be reloaded if you've saved in the Cloud. I saved a bunch of the factory tones and a few of my own so far.
Jim F- I managed to register the pedal board w/Line6. They needed the serial number to do so. I now have two pieces of Line6 gear under the register. They def have nice tones. Not that ZOOM doesn't.

That is nice to know. I'm glad Line6 has updated their procedures and policies regarding transferring ownership. Some manufactures don't understand that users buy, sell and trade equipment. It's evident Line6 understands this fact.

All tones off the fx100 here. REC'd two guitar tracks and a bass track D/I pc. There's a strange artifact present in the audio that wasn't there on my first RECing w/the fx100. Some funny pops. Organ is off Kontakt. Drums are EZ.

Well thanx, Zoe. I appreciate the listen and comment. Curious what sound source you used for it? On my mediocre quality ear buds I can hear the pops, but they are def in the background, thankfully. I have nice Sony bluetooth buds coming soon. They will def kick the audio up coupla notches for me.

This is nice review of them although a bit testosterone overloaded.
