We recently bought my son a Stylophone for his birthday.

I don't have any warm, nostalgic feelings for this instrument as I never owned one and don't know anyone who did, but I feel I ought to.

Anyway here are some facts about it and some songs that feature it:
http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/article/2 ... ired-.html

Not as versatile an instrument as, say, a guitar, but a bit of fun nonetheless.

Rupert

Rup,

I'm going to have to check this out. Maybe a "Spring Stylophone Tour" is in the works...

About 3 of the videos don't play. They have embedding problems. But I'm heading out to the net to look this thing up.

While I don't nitpick songs, I do give my honest opinions.

You have made a most wise purchase Rup.

I've had my stylophone for just over a year now and its got a nice grungey feel to it as the keyboard section builds up grime. The sound cracks and splutters just enough to give a fab organic feel to the notes.
I always like to heap tons of reverb on the thing, a bit of delay too, double track it and let it soar. Yeh !

Did someone say reverb.

Can you hook the thing up to an amp?

Reverb with extra reverb on the side. Thought your ears would prick up Mr C. :D

You can hook em up to an amp but i prefer to mic mine for added tinny cheapness.

A concerto for stylophone anyone ?

If you did do a song using just a Stylophone, which I'm not suggesting anyone does, being a single note instrument, you would obviously have a track for each note, so you might have a few tracks for percussive sound, one for bass and a few for lead/pad/whatever. So lots of tracks, hypothetically.

The master at work.

I know coming from a three stringed guitar player this is going to sound odd, but the Sty seems so limiting.

Some folk can make a rubber band sound good. The rest of us just stand and wonder - (why?)

It's funny you said that about rubber bands. I just saw this video yesterday:

(Hint: They guy plays rubber bands.)
