Open Mics and Upgrades

Post by surfercook » Sat May 07, 2016 8:27 pm

Hey everyone! I know I've been absent for a loooong time now. Still playing and trying some RECing...nothing produced though. I've taken to a few open mics recently and it's quite a change from playing at home alone! Both my laptop and desktop upgraded to Windows 10 and I tried my UX2 POD Studio out. Of course it didn't work so I downloaded the driver and reinstalled....wahla! Presto, worked. I feel so behind in tech. When I first joined ZOOM forum way back I seemed so on it, and was learning alot. Now it's the opposite, but at least I'm still playing. I still think of everyone here. It's a wonderful place and cool it's still up.
Here's a vid someone took of me and some really good blues guys doing Stormy Monday. It's at a really cool Grille right on the bay here. I'm Black Les Paul/blue and grey tee.

I even remembered how to make a bold face clickable!

Good to hear from you again! I like the blues band, some cool soloing from you too! You are too good for open mics, should get a residency somewhere and develop your fanbase.

Thanx Fogle, green, and vocie for replying...see, this place still has some life! I would love to have my own regular gig. But it's been more difficult lately to stay in practice. I think w/age my cognitive skills might have declined a touch. Seems my attention span might be waning a bit. But life goes on and I'm def happy at 58.
The finger is still pretty bad, John. Thing is effed, man! Some chords are near impossible to play now. Hopefully it'll come back proper. Someone told me their finger took like 2 yrs to return after a dislocation.

Here's a study I did a coupla years ago. this song is sooo cool..and it took me FOREVER to read the chart all the way through...prob played it 100x. There are ALOT of different phrasings in this piece.
Practice piece from Berklee School of Music.

Sounds good, surfer. Nice video too. Was the video taken on a phone? I can't believe how much things have changed in just the one decade I've been on this board. Making a video used to be a big production.

Such a shame! You're a super talented guitarist/bassist and now your ability to play has been compromised. It's like you sacrificed one talent for another. Sad! I sincerely hope your finger can heal and you can get back up to your full playing potential-SOON.
