*** May is MIDI Month! *** (Article Reprint)

Post by Jim_Fogle » Fri Apr 27, 2018 11:00 am

Background information: I am a member of https://www.midi.org/ and receive the organization's newsletter each month. The information below is copied from a recent newsletter. I hope this article reprint provides fuel for some discussions among forum members.
In May 2018, The MIDI Association will be running a May is MIDI Month promotion to help grow MIDI.org with a membership and donation drive.

Here are some key elements:
  • Website redesign. To create more value for both our corporate MMA and individual TMA members, we are re-designing the website with a cleaner, more contemporary design and expanded functionality.

MIDI Tip of the Day. Craig Anderton, one of the industry¹s best-known writers and a TMA board member, will present a new MIDI tip every day on the site.

A newsletter every week in May. Four special issues will cover new MIDI developments, links to the daily tips, and feature a MIDI artist of the week.

MIDI News at Super Booth, Messe, ASCP Expo and Moog Fest. We will be covering all the new products and events at some of the best shows of the year for MIDI products.
Our Goal
At Winter NAMM 2018, new MIDI standards were adopted (MPE and MIDI-CI) that extend expressiveness and ease of use. There is also a new MIDI protocol targeted for completion later this year that will further address the needs of end users and manufacturers alike.

The MIDI Association's goal: raise $12,000 during May to develop video content that explains the benefits of these new technologies to the world. We are a volunteer non-profit that puts all of the money we raise back into member services.

"May is MIDI Month" Platinum Corporate Sponsorships

A number of companies have committed to being Platinum sponsors, including Ableton, IK Multimedia, Moog, Nektar, Roli, Sweetwater, and Yamaha. Platinum corporate sponsors have agreed to match up to $1,500 in individual member donations for the month. With 7 Platinum sponsors, $1,500 donated to The MIDI Association by individuals in May becomes $12,000 for the organization.

"May is MIDI Month" is an example of the how MIDI companies, the press/media, and individual MIDI users can work together to create a powerful synergy that benefits all MIDI stakeholders.

It is a tribute to the people who first created MIDI that it's still around today. Kind of amazing.
