Niama & Comin Home/Covers/UX2/REAPER/YRG

Post by surfercook » Mon Oct 23, 2017 11:11 pm

Had some fun RECing tonight. Except the part where my Mixcraft and Samplitude both wouldn't open up. At least REAPER still works real well, although it hasn't been updated in forever! The YouRockGuitar still works nicely w/the improved/upgraded neck I bought for it. Funny thing was I thought I had hit REC on the electric piano for Comin' Home but I was wrong! Realized it after I'd already ditched the YRG and set up the UX2 interface for the guitar. So I ended up doing the rhythm for it w/the guitar. The head is played twice then I solo til the fade out. It kinda reminds me of how The Dead would improvise off each other. Also fooled around/noodled around w/the Coltrane classic Niama for a few measures. w/a synth I liked from way back. Added some percussion from the EZ latin pack using the YR. :guitar: :drum: :music: :type:

Wow, that guitar on Comin' Home sounds like it's in my room it's so clear. Nice. I like the skat type guitar work too (if that's the right use of the word). All the other parts fit together nicely. Again, very nice guitar. Good recording Marc. (I'll have to come back and listen to the other track later as I have to go out now.)

Marc,
I listened to Comin' Home Baby. it's a nice recording. I can hear each instrument clearly and bass really anchors it without being intrusive. I hear some some hints of Santana in it? Was that intentional? Your guitar work is smooth and precise. Nice job Marc!

Nice tone!

I'm not sure about the drums on coming home. A touch busy to my ears.

I wasn't expecting the synths. Nice to hear something different.

Cheers

Your guitar work on Comin Home is exceptional, as usual, but I agree that the drum work is a bit on the busy side.

Niama-I listened to your version and then went back to the Coltrane version. I must say that I really don't hear much comparison between the two. I listened to each several times back to back and really could not hear any similarities at all. So, maybe yours is more original than you think. ;) Either way, I did like the synth/arpeggiator work on yours regardless.

Thanx to Cracks, lungy, vocalzr, dickl, and Fogle for once again listening to my work and posting comments. I knew "Comin' Home" has messed up drums. A second ver was needed and it's prob still messed up! So I worked on a third ver even! It's a really easy jam and super fun to improvise on.
Sorry for the raw links here. I was having a heck of a time trying to get the urlx= to work. :?
Here's the second version in my DropBox. I used a jazz kit and drum patterns for it this time. First ver had rock beats and kit.

And here's the third ver! Used some chill drum loops for this one. I think it's the best ver so far. :music:

My synth ver is def WAY different, JB. Try this more traditional ver I REC'd a while back. I did the percussion freehand and the entire track was done w/out a click track.
