Pass The Time Away/REDO HERE!(6/09)

Post by surfercook » Mon May 25, 2009 1:02 pm

Recorded vocals again using a Dynamic Unidirectional Microphone instead of the built in condenser and changed the effect to one that didn't have so much echo. New percussion track(congas, chimes, shaker, and wood blocks), dwnlded some new wave sounds. Thanx all for the crits and suggestions

Always wanted to record an original Summer Surf Song. Kind of an Endless Summer thing. Nothing fancy here. Be warned though...I tried some vocals on this one.

1st- Acoustic guitr rhythm w/click track
2nd- Vocals (built in condenser mic)
3rd- Lead guitr fills
4th- Bass
5th- Percussion(pretty much all congas w/some chimes. Wood block at the outro)
6th- Waves
7th- Remove click track and did mix on MRS

Cool Marc!!!
Finally a song where ya sing!!!! Pretty cool, only nit I have is the vocals are a little distorted in places, but you can fix that pretty easily. Glad you finally broke down & tried singing! You've got a good voice, as usual the music is spot on. Good job!!!

The quality in your voice compliments the style of music very nicely. Percussion is coming across quite strong in the headphones, compared to the rest of the stuff going on.

I liked this. Maybe not the most polished of your postings (because of the slightly distorting vocals), but probably the nicest I've heard.

Bravo

Song has a nice cool vibe to it. Nice guitar solo. Nice echo on congas. Maybe bring down the vocals- started to distort- sounds like there is an effect on the vocals- like a choris or something....Maybe turn that level down, and then maybe some compression.

Otherwise nice sound. really liking the guitar solo on the outro...

Nice song, great guitar. What's not working for me are the surf sounds, they kind of move to fast for the tempo of the music, and don't sound real. The drum is too loud or sharp or something. The wood block at the end is also too loud.

You sing well, you have a good voice, but you have to control those hissing ssssssss-es. Are you using a pop filter? It helps (even a homemade stocking and clothes hanger one), but you still have to sing without hissing them. Bad one at 2:26. I'd say practice it a bit, it's not hard to learn the technique, then redo the vocal. Or try to avoid writing songs with the letter s in them ;)

This is a fine piece of work. Original? Great vocals, guitar, bongos (drums). More like this, please.

Man, you are postin' fool.....(like Gump was a runnin' fool). :P
But I must say, you do give back and that's important.
Vocals sound just fine, but the perc (bongo) sounds a bit out of whack in a few spots. Maybe it's too busy. Watch those S's!.
Fine job, and a California King is what I sleep on too..... ;)

Nice tune. Really dig the guitar tone. Is that the big hollowbody in the picture?

I like that little break at about 1:38.

You should sing more often, you did a good job. Found the bongos a little loud as well (and seemed a tad out in spots as Sun noted).
I enjoyed this tune a lot. Nice job. Oh, and watch the "essss" as mentioned as well ;) I hate them things when I get a song with them in it. As Gwood suggested, a little work, and you can learn to work around them.

Hey Marc..Your a dark horse man. Vocals now!! :D ..Is there no end to yer talent!..Very nice laid back vibe. did you use a pop shield. This will reduce the hissing on the vocals in places. Loved the song tho mate. really, really nice.

:^: ...Keep em coming my friend.

Hi Marc,

Wow...you've got a voice! ...& potentially, a very good one!
It is very comfortable with itself in most parts of the song which is a great feat considering you don't sing that often! :D

This is really cool 8) The Guitar is as flawless as ever...good solid Bass...The Perc. was interesting, though it lacks in some places but you could change that (If you recorded to a click track that is)...(but then if you didn't...you could add a lil' extra live perc.) ((Cowbell! )) :)

I say thumbs up & definately sing more!

Absolutely love the song. Lots of hiss on the vocals.I find it is very difficult to record and mix my own vocals when I'm not so secure with my voice. Yours sounds fine though. Great guitar - really lowers the pulse! Nice work.

Not bad, not bad at all. An original with you singing, what next?

Well worth doing and putting up.

Bit of hiss on your esses, but acceptable when your spitting out the ocean.

Like it.

Best Regards

...So you do have a voice... very nice...

This is very cool Marc, I won't repeat the vocal distortion & ss' thing as I think you get that message now.

Gorgeous archtop jazz tone on the Guitar, love that tone Man.
Some Mandolin or Ukelele in the background would've added a kind of Polynesian feel to this, but its cool as is.

The vocal is very good for someone obviously so shy of his voice. It could do with a dynamic tweak here & there but very good all the same, more please! Keep the originals coming.

The wave sounds aren't too convincing if I'm honest. Otherwise the mix is very good.

Fine job Sir!

TAIL-
Marc, this is nice!! Has a very refreshing and relaxing quality!
You should sing more often. Your voice isn't bad at all. Perhaps a de-esser might help, but really nice voc delivery.
I have to agree with the bongo assessment above, mostly the volume needs just a bit cut. A tad (tidge) off in one or two places, but no biggie. Overall, great work. More vocal stuff please!! :D ;)
