PS04. Sonar X1 Producer, Cover Old Motown

Post by Roy-Al » Sun Mar 27, 2016 3:33 am

PS04. Sonar X1 Producer, Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS,Realistic Omni Mic, Yamaha PSR-220. You can tell all my stuff is old (like me) & inexpensive (also like me).

I found this midi song file after a conversation with my big sister about the dances in the 60s. One of them was the Uncle Willie. Which we danced to the beat of Mary Wells' recording of The One Who Really Loves You. Got to feeling nostalgic on my 65th B'Day, 3/14 and tried to sing it. I missed in quite a few areas of the song but I did enjoy rearranging and recording it. Again, wish I had some of your guy's skills but I am that I am.

Some other guys are filling your head with lies
got you pretending -- you don't know I'm alive
If you keep playing while I’m here saying love is not a game
you’re gonna lose me, and I’m the one -- who loves you

Michael only wants you until the day
he'll get a new lover -- in some other place
You better wake up, before we break up
And you lose me – the one who loves you

Kenny only wants you 'cause he thinks he ought to have everyone
Mickey just wants you 'cause he likes taunting me for fun
Ohhhh -- you know Billy he’ll only really lasts
till the night is through

There’ll never be a guy in your entire life
who will love you the way that I do

When those guys get tired of you -- they'll put you down
Ain’t even gonna want you -- hanging around
You better wake up before we break up
And you lose me -- the one who loves you

Hi Roy,
Nice cover. Your production (keyboards & drum) support your old skool vibe. I like your voice but it wished it was a little higher in the mix. It started off my morning right. Glenn

Hi Roy, nice to to see you around these parts :)

It's sounding good but those vocals really need to be mixed more up-front.

Cheers

Dick

i agree that the vocal needs to be a bit more up front. I always liked your voice. You sound very much like Smokey. The instrumentation sounds a bit weird, but if they are raw MIDI files, as you say, that explains it. Running them through better sample libraries would yield better results, but we have to work the best with what we have on hand.

:^:

BTW-Thanks again on revisiting "Season" ;)

Long time no hear, Roy. The recording is nice enough but I agree it needs some mixing work.

The real story here is your great art work. I love it!

Thank you everyone for your listen and your very welcome critique. Recording, mixing and indeed, even singing are still something of the elusive butterfly for me. There must be a big old hole in my net. I keep trying though and most of my efforts are with your advice. I skipped on this one in favor of pursuing more original stuff. Will post soon. Again, thanks and keep making music! Roy

I didn't comment on this first time round so here goes: You sing very well in this style, which makes it more of a shame that the vocal wasn't recorded/mixed very clearly.
