Devil's At The Door org/PSRE403/SP1 mic/Mixcraft 5/Cl1

Post by The Cracks » Mon Jan 16, 2017 6:22 pm

I have several half finished songs and I thought I'd close the book on one of them this evening but I ended up writing a new song completely. I guess this qualifies under the old two hour song thing we used to do as I started this one exactly two hours and one minute ago.

I started on piano and just built the song up from there. It's a very simple arrangement with not a lot of extras. I wrote the words imaging it an old Civil War type song for some reason.

I wrote the music on my PSRE403 keyboard and recorded it into Mixcraft 5 via my Cl1 interface. I recorded the vocals into Mixcraft 5, via the SP1 mic and Cl1 interface. Everything was mixed in Mixcraft 5.

Thanks for any listens and comments.

If there ever was someone who sounded like Tom Waits it's you! I love the simplicity of the song. The piano and your voice work out very well. The addition of the violin (?) and snare really add to the song. Well done.

Do you have anything on your voice? Equalizer? Effect?

Thanks for listen and comments, Lungfruit. I appreciate it.

Yes, I did have Tom Waits in mind when writing and recording lyrics. I imagined his style singing an old Civil War song. Long and convoluted path for lyrics. :)

I had to go back and check my lyrics track. The only thing I have is standard reverb on them. In fact I used only reverb on three of the four tracks (piano, vocal and violin). No Eq, compression or anything else.

Hauntingly beautiful, but depressing.

Blimey Sean this is sobering stuff. Powerful, simple and almost painful in the emotion.

Brilliantly lyrics and very moving.

Nick Cave would be proud of this.

All the best mate.

Cheers

Dick

The Tom Waits comparison is spot on.
