Hippies Don't Wear Plaid ~ original ~ R24

Post by Lungfruit » Wed Apr 12, 2017 1:10 pm

DW and I were out listening to the local Grateful Dead cover band when it dawned on me that hippies don't wear plaid. :mrgreen: And I thought what an odd title for a song.

https://soundcloud.com/strayed-from-the ... wear-plaid

For some reason it cuts off a moment before it should at the end. I don't know why and I couldn't fix it.

CHORUS
Hippies don't wear plaid. They prefer earth tones.
Hippies don't wear plaid. Hippies don't wear plaid

Wrote this song about hippies. Never thought I'd do.
Turns out hippies are just like you. 'Cept hippies don't wear plaid

Here's another thing, you might like to know;
hippies don't work at Taco Bell or Domino's
They want to make coffee at your shop.
Hippies won't make tacos, ( or) bring you pizza.
Sit out by the river reading Nietzche

CHORUS

How do tell a hippy from a hipster?
A hippy won't wear those chunky glasses either.
Plus a hippy won't wear plaid.
Never saw a hippy in Izod-Lacoste. Never saw a hippy in Chanel.
But you'll never see one in the checker flannel.
Because hippies don't wear plaid.

CHORUS

Production notes:
recorded directly to the Zoom R24
guitars = Taylor CE110
bass = Fender Jazz
vox = Sennheiser e822S -> Digitech Vocal 300
drums = Yamaha DD65

Really nice sound you captured here. Bouncy! You nailed the sound to go with the subject matter. Drums fit perfectly. Great lyrics and vocals.

I like it!

Thanks Sean. I'm working hard on my drums. That's the hardest part for me. I'm not a drum-programming talent like John is. Thanks Dick for giving it a whirl.

Funny stuff, those lyrics :)

It seems you are at the far end of what you can do with your voice, reaching this high. (At some point it is actually a bit unsteady). Suggestion: maybe try out a key for future songs in which you are more comfortable when singing?

I try all my songs in different keys to see where it works best and this seemed to be the best. What I really need is a better voice! :D

Thanks for listening.

Thumbs up for doing that! (I often have to adjust my vocals to what I have recorded already).
