Why Lie? ~ original acoustic ~ R24

Post by Lungfruit » Mon Jun 26, 2017 6:51 pm

I've been tweaking this project for the last few months. I'd work on it for a bit, move on to something else, than come back to it. Well I finally finished the final mixing.

Cheers,
Glenn

Definitely hearing some Neil young in there.

Sometimes the bass /solo guitar notes don't sit completely but everything else sounds fine and the vocals suit the song.

The chorus has a nice hook.

Keep it up!

Thanks for listening. I'll have to go back and listen to that part a little more closely. I get that Neil Young thing a lot.

A well written song. I think you should have returned to the "why lie" chorus more often as I almost forgot about it until it came back at the end. It's very catchy and the main hook of the song. You had me hooked like a fish. You don't want to lose the fish.

I really like the guitar playing, especially the little solos. Nice. Good vocals. The other instruments sounded good to me. Overall, a good recording and good song. I liked it.

Thanks for listening Sean. I'm especially happy about the melody right after the solo.

Very nice song.

I'd like to hear the bass have a bit more bottom and notch out some of its higher frequencies - comes across as too boomy in some places.

I think you could lift the vocal a db or maybe squeeze it a little more, but I might change my mind if the bass wasn't taking so much of my attention!

Nice work. I wish I could write a song as well as this. You spent some time coming up with an arrangement that complements the song.

Welcome to the forum! Thanks for listening. I notice that depending on the headphones or speakers I'm listening to a mix on it may sound more less boomy. In my car, for example, I can hardly hear the bass. On my mixing speakers it sounds like too much. And I'm not talented enough to know how to fix that.

@jim_fogle ~ Long time no see! :) Thanks for the listen!

For me, mixing bass is one of the harder parts to get right!

It's always going to sound different on different kinds of output devices. The trick, of course, is making it sound acceptable, if not good, on most, if not all, of them.

Getting your room acoustics under control is so important if you are using your monitor speakers. I ignored that for years, and spent a lot of time playing stuff on different headphones and in the car and then going back and tinkering. I don't do that nearly as much now. After some acoustic treatment in my room, I use the speakers first and then validate on one other device. I've got a long way to go, but you know, practice, practice, practice...
