It's Too Late (A Loving Tribute to Pink Floyd) ~ original rock ~ R24

Post by Lungfruit » Sun Aug 13, 2017 6:27 pm

It's no secret that I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan. Fresh off of seeing Roger Waters US+Them tour I was inspired to write a PF inspired song. It's more Roger than David because it has a political edge to it.

I had a nearly completed version of this song, but I came into the studio one day and every track was erased. I think what happened was that I have a habit of keeping my R24 on all the time and there was a power outage that day. It's never happened to me before. So I went about recreating the whole thing. Good thing I keep notes.

LIke the ill-fate jetliner. With no captain to be found.
There'll be no turning back.
Once we hit the ground.
No one will be found.

With the brake fluid trailing behind us, as we careen towards the wall.
The steering wheel is broken.
Ain't nothing break our fall.
Ain't nothing there at all.

The leaders you pay to protect us have all lied to your face.
Told you what you want to hear.
And you took the bait.
And now it's too late.

Crys and screams won't escape me. Bite my tongue to keep them inside. How'd we let this happen?
How long must this go on?
How long till I'm done?

Ain't no point in protesting. There's too many voices to be heard.
You cannot trust the ballot box.
It's been bought and sold.
Worth it's weight in gold.

It's too late.
I fear it's too late.
I fear it's too late.

You pretty much nailed it on the Pink Floyd sound.

Lovely acoustic guitar playing. Drums are great too. Are they real? The lyrics are very dreary and the vocals fit them perfectly. I like how you add some melody after the first stanza. Very Roger Waterish.

Good one.

Sean, thanks for listening. The drums are real in that it's me playing, but it's an electronic kit. Alesis DM 10. :drum:

Great lyrics, sadly sums up much of what is happening across both our countries at the moment.

A really interesting arrangement with a lot going on.

I hope it's not too late even if it seems like that sometimes :(

Excellent work Glenn.

Cheers

I like that someone would choose the genre and go with it, not much prog rock around these days or is it coming back, maybe I don't listen enough, but it was very much a good thing to hear a different way. I like how your mind works up and words up the lyrics. COol.

Not a big Floyd fan (sorry) but I did give it a whirl. Sounds like you did the best you could with it.

Nice, I remember doing Sorry Roger with Mike a number of years back, another Floyd type tune. ;)
