Cucamonga : Original Logic X

Post by dickl » Sun Oct 28, 2018 5:23 am

Not the Zappa song but ....

Another song inspired by Richard's Route 66 trip.

In short, in 1964 Zappa was asked by an undercover police officer to make a porn film. He refused but said he'd do a soundtrack. He was then booked on suspicion of conspiracy to manufacture pornographic materials and suspicion of sex perversion.

Full story on the Bandcamp page.

Richard: Lyrics, melody, all guitars, vocals.
Dick: Production and stuff.

Big production sound. It sounded like the 60s in many ways.

Good work to both of you. Well done.

Thanks Sean, I wasn't expecting any replies for a while :)

Richard wanted a 60s feel to it and I think he managed to get the guitar and bass sounding like that.

In truth I did very little except for add the horns on the chorus and generally smooth the whole thing out.

Thanks again :)

Cheers

Great 60s vibe going there. I can picture this in a Quentin Tarantino film.

Thanks Nick. I think Richard nailed it with the guitars on this one.

A Tarantino film would be pretty cool :)

Excellent audio production (as usual. I am so jealous!). Definitely got that sixties sound. Not a fan of the song but that's my fault, not yours; the song just didn't do anything for me. Overall though I'm enjoying listening to the last group of songs. The overall body of work is consistently good and very impressive.

Thanks Jim.

No problems. I don't expect everybody to like every song!

I'm pleased you listen at all and bother to make a comment. It's all very much appreciated :)

Richard has been on a bit of a roll since he since he started to put together the ideas from the Route 66 trip and I think there's at least one of two more in the pipeline.

Thanks again.

Cheers

haha..."bongo fury" must be some hippie term :) I love it! I like the story-telling aspect of the song. It's a nice mix with everything well represented except something seems different with the voice but I'm not sure what it is. Maybe IMHO it should be a little bit higher in the mix. Glenn

Thanks for the listen and comments Glenn. Not sure about the vocals. I quite like how Richard sang them and I suppose I'm so used to them that they don't sound too quiet to me.

Bongo Fury was a Zappa album with Captain Beefheart from 1975 and "bongo" fitted into the lyrics!

Cheers

Zappa was born here in Baltimore. His family moved around the area until finally moving to California. We have a bust of him in a public space in front of a library in East Baltimore.

Sounds like something that would happen to only Zappa. Definitely your style, Dick. I see most of the work is done by Richard but it still has your touch in it somewhere (production & stuff). Good thing.
