"Coconut Island" - original, R24

Post by mcdaggett » Mon Dec 24, 2018 7:39 am

My second attempt at recording this song. It's my personal take on death, I guess, so I went for a gloomy atmosphere. The refrain came after watching my grandma die, the verses try to tackle my individual view on dogmatized religion. As such, please bear in mind: not intended to offend anyone. Might not be a suitable Xmas-song, then again: it might just be that. I figured how to enable downloads, so... merry Xmas, boys and girls.

The guitar tone and melody reminded me of The Replacements. I don't really get it as a take on religion. I don't find it gloomy either. The mix is generally good. I like solo. I think you voice is a little buried in the mix, but that may be intentional. Good stuff!

When I first saw the title I thought it was going to be a Jimmy Buffet style song. Then I read your description and thought this is going to be very downbeat, but actually it's got a bit of a dark tone there, but still upbeat. Very 90's in my opinion. Lyrically I can't say to much on the first listen. I do agree the vocals need to be brought out to the front more, I really couldn't make them out, but that's just on the first listen. Overall a good tune.

I'd also go with 90s - a sort of grungy, emo sound.

Nicely done. Vocals are a bit buried, which as Glenn said may be intentional. The solo is also somehwat buried so I'm thinking maybe this is intentional. Then again I tend to mix vox very upfront!

Well produced and the harmonies that poke through sound good.

Whoa, Dude! Bring your vocal track up a bit. I can't make out a word of your lyrics. The music is great and there's much potential here, but your lyrics should be clearly understood.
