It's My Party, PS-04, Cover Song, Rock

Post by Beatnick » Fri Jan 25, 2019 11:53 am

This is my take on the classic Lesley Gore song. I'll probably slow down on the song posting after this, I only posted this one today because it is my birthday, but I have noticed I'm pretty much the only one posting songs lately.

I Recorded this about 12 years ago, maybe longer. I originally programed the drum and bass on the PS-02, but never got around to recording it. After I got my PS-04 I converted the drum and bass to midi and put it on my Yamaha QY-100. I put the drum and bass on one track then recorded the 2 guitar tracks and 2 vocal tracks (I don't like bouncing so I recorded the extra vocal track as a virtual track.) After putting everything on my PC, I did the final mixing with audacity. At the time I did my guitar effects with a Digitech GNX-1 with a Digitech Brian May Red Special pedal in front of it (mostly for Distortion, but if the guitar has a Brian May kind of tone, that's why.) Hope you enjoy it.

Sad song about betrayal but done in a peppy manner by both Lesley Gore and you. Pretty good cover.

I think the vocals are buried in the mix some and that's too bad because I think you have a better singing voice than you think. I enjoy hearing it and hope to hear it more often.

The song lacks any bottom end. Excellent guitar playing as is normal with your songs and jams.

Last thought, don't let the lack of others posting stop you from posting. There's dry spells where the creative juices just don't flow. Your posting encourages us!

Nooooooooo...I spelled her name wrong!!!

I'll have to do some editing. I need to figure out how to put cards into videos.

Thanks for your advice. I have noticed there isn't much boom to the mix. And I've always been shy about mixing my voice. I think some of the mixing issues have to do with bad quality speakers too when I was mixing. I hope you take time to listen to the other 2 songs I posted too.

I am listening to some other songs trying to figure which to do next. Most of my recordings were done on Zoom products, though I did use a Tascam DP-1 for a while. I assume we're only supposed to post songs that actually used Zoom products.

Since I'm not the forum owner or forum moderator I'm not qualified to answer if you can post songs made on equipment other than that manufactured by Zoom. Besides it's still Zoom equipment if you used a pedal.

Hmmmm, I know I was using Digitech for the guitar during that time, but I think I was using a Zoom pedal in the effect loop for my vocal effects during that time, so I guess that does count. I'm still debating on how I am releasing this stuff. I do actually have a few albums worth of recordings. I kind of would like to keep the albums together. I think only one of the albums was done on the Tascam.

Beatnick,

Don't worry so much. Just enjoy your music and post what you want to post. I don't think the Zoom police monitor this forum.

Happy belated birthday Nick :)

I'm not a great fan of covers but this is nicely done.

Although initially the forum was mostly Zoom recordings it was also aimed at any home recording whether that was Garageband, Cubase, Logic or whatever. I joined when I had an MRS16 (which I still have!) and something called PowerTracks Pro on a PC. Then I bought a Mac and started using Garageband (which I didn't like initially) but eventually got my head around it and moved to Logic and haven't really looked back.

Just post your songs however they're recorded ;)

Cheers

Dick

Thanks, Dick, a few people caught the joke of me releasing that song on my birthday...it's definitely not personal experience though. I'm not a fan of covers either. I love a lot of music and sometimes try to learn a song, but I get frustrated because it takes too long to learn and move on to something of my own because it just comes to me easier (Sometimes when I have a specific riff in my head, even my own music gets frustrating). If I do a cover I usually just learn the main riff and the chords and then do it my own way.

Thanks on that advice on what to post too. The EP I'm working on is all done on my PS-02, pretty much the same way I did "All Those Things We Said." Eventually I'll have some other stuff that was not done with Zoom products, but there really isn't much because I've been a Zoom nut since the original 505. I did have a long gap where I was using Digitech multi-effects though.
