"When The Lights Go Out" ~ original rock song ~ R24

Post by Lungfruit » Fri May 24, 2019 6:39 pm

Howdy Zoomers,
I think you all know me as a guitar/harmonica/folk guy, but I'm trying to stretch my musical wings a bit. Here's a little hard rock/metal number I've been working on for awhile.

https://soundcloud.com/strayed-from-the ... hts-go-out

When The Lights Go Out

Ain't nobody going to be about. Ain't nobody when the lights go out.
And nobody going to be around, nobody left in this town.
Who you call when your phone don't work? Where you go when your car won't start?
What you buy when your moneys no good? All you got is the ground you stood.

Chorus: When the lights go out. Are you gonna be afraid? When the lights go out. Are you gonna feel the fear?

What you do when the gov't breaks? When everyone around seems insane.
What you do when society gone? When everything that can will go wrong.
What you do when the food run low? When you've many miles to go.
Where you going go find a place where you could be warm and safe?

Did the rapture come to soon or are the Russians on the move?
Or did we finally break the bank. And there's nothing left in the tank.
Was this foretold to occur? Or was it written down in the word?
Did we close our eyes? Or were they closed for us?

Chorus

Thanks for listening! Glenn

Absolutely fantastic! I love that heavy guitar. Great riff, great lyrics, great vocals, great vibes. Man, the music and energy in that song underscored the message. I loved how you changed the vocal Fx. Is that you playing guitar, Glenn? If so, my hat's off. I love it.

A+ recording.

A+ song.

Top notch work.

I like it. It actually reminds me of the Beatles heavier stuff (think of the White Album, Helter Skelter and stuff like that). I love the guitar tone and playing. It's kind of a raw style. The drums are really good too, again I'm going to compare it to Helter Skelter. Great stuff.

As the others have commented, I really dig the guitar sound. And the vocal sits nicely in the mix with the rest. Clever and effective little break before the solo. Speaking of the solo, it really compliments the song. A shredding thing probably wouldn't have fit. I like the drums, too. Not overdone at all.

Well done.

Sean, Chris, & beatnik; Thanks for listening. Yes it's all me on all of the instruments. I'll put my production notes below.

Guitars: Fender Telecaster -> Digitech RP255 (Killer effect - main riff, Fuztone effect - solos)
Bass: Fender Jazzmaster -> straight to the R24
Drums: Alesis Dm10 kit
Vocals: Shure SM58 -> Digitech 300 (vocal effects)
Sound effects: Copyright free on YouTube

I'm in a rut where if I can't finish a song in 1-2 weeks than it tends to languish in the purgatory of unfinished songs, never to be completed. On this one I was just jammin' with the "Killer" effect and the words just came to me and I was able to get it done in about 10 days.

Unexpected but very effective :)

Great feel to this. Vocals are sounding good and that insistent guitar really drives it along.

Nice one Glenn :)

Cheers
