Fallin (New Song)

Post by Roy-Al » Wed Aug 28, 2019 1:29 am

Cakewalk by Bandlab, Bandlab online, Dell Precision 690, Neewer NW-700, PSO4:

Direct recorded the lead vocal to PC, the background vocals on my trusty PS04. Mixed in Cakewalk and mastered online through Bandlab
I wrote the song "Fallin" on my parents anniversary 6/25/2019. Heard this great track. I "forked" it added my raggedy vox and customary bad timing. This is the end result. Hope you like it. Thanks Cameron/Cambeats for the music! #augustnation2019

Hi Roy-Al,

I assume the electronic drum beat was the inspiration. Glad to see some a Cakewalk and Bandlab user on the forum.

The mix worked out pretty good. Do you remember which of the three Bandlab mastering presets you used? While the mix is good the high end sounds a little over emphasized to my ears.

The song is nice. Which anniversary is your parents celebrating?

Cool track. :stick: I love your retro-soul sound.

Where do you get these tracks?

I won't respond for Roy-Al because I obviously do not know the answer to your question. I suspect from his post though the sounds came from Bandlab.

if you haven't investigated Bandlab yet you may find it worth your time. Bandlab is a social platform, collaboration center, content creator and has online tools like a recorder, mixer, effects and mastering. Everything is free but you need to set up an account linked to an email address or a social media account with Facebook or Google. Learn more about Bandlab here: https://www.bandlab.com/

The Bandlab Assistant acts as your account manager and is available here: https://www.bandlab.com/products/desktop/assistant. The Assistant has three tabs: Library, Sounds and Apps. There is also a settings window. The Assistant does not need to always be on (running).

The Assistant opens on the Library tab for access to song projects. You can create a new project, open the mix editor, upload tracks and search other projects.

Sounds provides access to loop packs or all loops. MIDI and audio loops are available. Loop packs are multiple loops similar in theme packaged together.

Apps has a link to Bandlab and a link to manage the Cakewalk (formally Sonar Platinum) DAW. The Bandlab button either opens your browser to a Bandlab sign-in window or to your Bandlab account home page. The Bandlab account home page tracks your posts, collaborations, projects and links to trending items. The Cakewalk button manages the DAW download and installation, DAW updates and extra content including the TTS-1 16 channel, multi-timbrel and polyphonic MIDI sound module; Studio Instrument Suite of virtual instruments including drum kit, electric bass, electric piano and string section; drum replacer; trial edition of Melodyne Essential and a GUI editior.

It's a richly textured track. I like all the beats, it really gives the song some depth. Your voice is perfect for that sound. I don't hear any timing issues. It's good stuff!

Thanks Jim. I'll look into it this weekend. More collabs is what a person like me who is a limited musician needs.

Pretty cool sounding. Part of it reminds me a bit of John Legend.

I'm just now trying to get into Bandlab myself. I'm mostly looking for something to play with away from home. I haven't had much if a chance to dig into it though or look at the social side of it.

Your voice remains at the centre of it all and you did an excellent job with a very quirky backing track.

Cheers

I'm not sure which parts were created by you and which were taken from somewhere else (or was it a collab?). Your vocals remind me of someone, but I can't remember who... They fit the track, but could fit the mix better, I think. Maybe up the volume of the vocals a bit? Add some reverb. And or experiment with subtle delays a bit? Anyway, nice moody track.
