Toss your links to free VST plugins and VST instruments in this here thread.
I'll get the ball rolling:

Odo Synths

Dig 2.0 guitar amp modeler (Lot's of presets. Allows a lot of control and tweaking. Make sure in your DAW you are monitoring the effected sound, not the clean sound going in. For Toneport users this means turn monitoring all the way down in Gearbox/Podfarm and bypass all effects, amps, etc., and turn on live monitoring in your DAW of choice.)

Mixcraft's free VST page, includes Kjaerhus Audio Classic Series and RZSVocoder

Minimogue synth (fantastic!!!)

I suspect this thread already lost it's value by being to long ?? Maybe we need a thread where every person gets to recommend one plug in and one plug in only :)

No, a data dump is fine. If people want to go into more detail about a specific plugin they particularly like, that's great, but not necessary.

The TL Pocket Limiter is still my favorite free Limiter:
http://hem.bredband.net/tbtaudio/archive/archive.htm

Also check out the Saturation Driver plugin they do. Very cool for smoothing things out in a mix to get that tape sound. Remember to use Limiters responsibly. Dig in until it sounds squishy and then back it off a bit. They have a bunch of other free stuff on there.

I don't think I saw the Camel Crusher on here either:
http://www.camelaudio.com/camelcrusher.php

Or Ambience Reverb:
Oh No! It is gone!! The web site is dead it seems. Bummer

Thanks to the marvelous people at Home Made Hit Show it's back, at least until somebody tells me to take it down which I will do immediately.

for amps and stuff i use freeamp3 by fretted synth http://frettedsynth.home.att.net/

for multi sounds i like http://www.luxonix.com/home/en/products.html?id=lfx1310

for reverb i sometimes use glaceverb http://www.vstplanet.com/Effects/Effects.htm

as i usually play accoustic i find grancomp3 http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1047.html compresses well.

The Luxonix one mentioned a couple of times above is my fav... LX-1310, I think.

In addition to sounding great, it has 3 'slots', so if you're limited by how many
VST slots your software can handle, Luxonix comes to the rescue.

Hey fellow cheapskates, check this lot out :D

http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/tech/ ... -11-207966

Musicradar.com (online prescence of Computer/Future Music magazines) has been doing a series of free software round-ups - they're on week 11 now, but you can access them all from here.

There's a wide range of effects and instruments, too much for me to summarise here.

The great news is they're virtually all ones I'd never seen before, and they're selected by pro's, so hopefully no dross!

Enjoy 8)

Gary.

It's up again: http://magnus.smartelectronix.com/ It's the best-sounding reverb I have come across (especially for big halls) and has lots of presets with relatively comprehensive names. It's not as complex as it might look. If you don't find a good preset, take the closest one and just work with the wet/dry settings.
Also, check out the Nyquist EQ plug-in on that same page. It has an alternative user interface for EQ.

Addictive Drums is by far the best drum plug-in I have seen. Can't imagine how it could get any better. The free demo is limited but still very useful and sounds great with lots of possible variations. The real thing is pricey but probably worth it (please Santa, can I have it for Christmas?). The drum sounds are midi-controlled but it comes with midi-loops if you don't want to do everything from scratch (see Gary's video explaining this).

Yellow Tools Independence Free plug-in (http://www.yellowtools.com currently does not work?) is a sample player demo (no time limit) that comes with a free library of drums, percussion and other sounds.

Anybody know where I can find a 3 band parametric EQ (Knob type where you control gain and frequency and set a Q)?
Preferably free.

Mucho Gracias
:D :D :D

JB... doesn't the Luxonix have a parametric? I'm not home,
so I can't check for you.

I just looked in Lux. I don't see one in there, Mike. There's a good one in Kristal, but I need it for Mixcraft.
Thanks! :D
