Woah, heavy man. Great gritty guitar and organ sounds. Everything progresses well. Background Ohs are nice. The lyrics reminded me a little of a Torchwood episode. Another good one.

This is fantastic. I love that chorus.
Man, you and Dave are doing full productions here. I'd never get to 10 songs or 36 minutes doing all you guys do.
My hat is off to you.

Just got to listen on headphones. This sounds way too good for RPM. No fair! lol. The sound was so gritty and full. Did you work at that? Great!

Dressed in Blackwow, I love this ship, it's exciting !!
love the opening
the whole song is very cinematic as the lyric would suggest
nice breakdown.
good job putting that all together.

I really am a model of efficiency. I would say I worked a total of 5 hours on this. I think it would be harder for me to do a stripped back song. Almost everything is first take after getting the ideas down with a little practice. The vocals are almost completely first take with a couple of fixes here and there. I just think over the years I've developed an approach that makes it relatively easy, however this approach also tends to lead to a tendency to repeat myself in many ways.

I just had my first extended dose of The Tones that I’ve had in as long as I remember and I really really liked it!
“What What What” – very original and catchy man. Free form / “jammy” musically and tight around the main hook.
“The Loneliness of the Long Distance” – I really like that keyboard sound. Hey, there’s not a lot of strumming in this song…. witty. I like the reserved singing a lot as it creates a solid mood. I need to copy that!
“Let’s Go” – this is really cool –- great vibe. Like a long lost 70s party anthem!
“Dressed in Black” – very INXS (to me at least) and I really dug it… probably the most. You really have an 80s pop thing going for sure and I love that as I listen to it daily.

Thanks Lee, I never aim for the 80's sound but it's what people always say comes out. I still don't hear it

I think I am giving up on song #5. It's utter crap and I have no feel for it at all, everything I do just makes it worse. I will shelve it for now and take the night off. It feels like a "why don't I just give this whole thing up" kind of set back right now.

Don't stop, Tony. I have several songs that haven't made the cut so far. But I've kept them in case I need something on February 27, at 11:59 p.m.
I am too far in to quit now, unless something major comes along. My Mom's husband is very sick, so I won't say I'll not quit under any conditions.

In the end I just dumped that song and started again using the same idea and I've got something close to done now. I was just stuck in the mud with that version, it wasn't close to finished but I was making zero progress.

Re: Tony's RPM 2011 Thread - Song 4 Added 2/5/11
I just recorded a really bad sounding song. It's not a bad song. It sounds sort of like '64 Stones or Beatles (I-IV-V - easy enough). But I can't release it even under these rushed conditions. I'll keep it though in case deadline approaches and I need one.
I think I'll take off until at least Thursdsay. I have four in the can and still a fair amount of time.

Song 5 is done
Middle Aged Love Affair
http://thetones.bandcamp.com/track/midd ... ove-affair
A relatively simple tune, the overall idea was rescued from my abandoned song but then only took a few hours to complete.

No Kraposillator (currently for sale on eBay). It's just the MiniMogue, with the arp turned on and a few keys held down

Fantastic! May be one of the best written songs in your vast catalog.
This one could be picked up by a professional recorder. I kid not.
That piano is super-duper. I love this song.

Song 6 added
Jennifer
http://thetones.bandcamp.com/track/jennifer
Song 6 done, there's a number of things I'm not happy with, not least of which is the Variax Acoustic sound. I also had a weird Reaper timing error (my drum loops did not fit the timeline despite tempo matching) so I was limited in my options, but overall it's not too bad for the 6th song in 10 days

Ah, check that...this is the best written song in your vast catalog.
I love this song. That chorus is wonderful.
You should be proud of the work you've done on challenge so far.
Okay, got to get. I am in recording session as I type.
