no power

Post by rkirk » Sun Jun 10, 2018 4:54 pm

I have a similar problem to one I had months ago and by some dumb luck got my 7year old R16 working again. Keys all of a sudden started not working at all. I tried turning off and on, but that switch didn't work either. So I unplugged and tried to turn on again. But nothing happens. Last Time I just turned it upside down or something and then it started working. Not this time. Any ideas.
ThankS!

Descriptions like "no power" and "nothing happens" are a bit vague...

Apparently, the R16 was powered on and functional, then the keys and switches (including the power switch) suddenly stopped functioning.
After disconnecting the power supply and reconnecting "nothing happens", i.e. the R16 didn't power up.

Did you try with batteries?

Does the unit power up when connecting to USB?

Preliminary guess: a loose contact, probably the connector to the power print, or the keyboard print.

Hi. Well, to try to be a bit more clear, it was indeed working fine, then
all the function keys just stopped working. zilcho. Would not turn off
with switch. So I unplugged and tried to plug in again and still nothing.
It does NOT work with USB; I don't have the appropriate batteries as a I
write, maybe I'll go get some and try that.
But, if it is a contact problem, or the other thing you mentioned, I
certainly don't know how to take apart and service. Bought at local Sam
Ash years ago, and of course long out of warranty. So what could I do?
Who to take it to?
This is maybe a wake up call for me to do online mixing and recording like
most of the rest of the world, but I'm just so used to this thing.
Thanks!

There are disassembly/reassembly videos on YouTube (search for zoom and 3d printed sliders). If there's a loose connector you can fix it, but anything else will require electronics expertise...

Note that online mixing and recording is in no way a substitute for a decent R16 (or R24 like I have) together with a good DAW (e.g., Ardour).
