Die In My Sleep ~ original ~ R24

Post by Lungfruit » Thu Dec 06, 2018 7:55 pm

Sometimes songs come quicker than others. I conceived this and recorded everything except the drums in a weekend. Than in took me 7-8 days to get the drums to where I liked them. I free hand my drums so I like to experiment with different rhythms and kits. :drum: They are not perfect by any stretch, but probably as good as I can get them. I accidentally recorded the main sections without a metronome so the timing is off just a smidge which makes my drums off just a smidge. Oh well. I couldn't redo the main sections because I was so happy with my vocal performance that I wanted to keep it.

This is outstanding work. The writing is excellent and very imaginative. Great job.

Vocals are at a perfect level and music mixed right in. The drums were smoking. I didn't hear any timing issues at all. Do you play the drums with your fingers like I would on my keyboard? Or are you actually playing a real drum kit, etc.? What else is going on here? I hear guitar and maybe a bass? Is that it?

Great work Glenn. Very clear and outstanding recording.

Thanks Sean. The timing issues are minor. I think I camouflaged them pretty well. I have an Alesis DM10 e-kit so I’m sitting at the kit pounding away! :drum: someday I’ll learn to program drum tracks. It’s just my Taylor acoustic, Fender Jazz bass, and the e-kit. My voice is through a vocal effect called “plate reverb”.

Super creative lyrics. In the song comments I wrote the song is "cute" because the lyrics say things almost everyone thinks about but never talk about. You hid your timing errors well. Next time call it tempo changes and complain about how long you had to work on the tempo map to humanize the feel of the song! :drum:

What are you using for a bass in the song? What bass I heard is pretty buried in the mix.

I like your drumming. You've gotten your use out of the kit. You should see if Alexis is interested in an endorsement deal!

I'm impressed that you can play drums like that. Good work.

Thanks for listening Jim. Funny thing about the bass line is that I was listening to it in my car and I thought there was too much bass. I guess it depends on what speakers or headphones it's going through. I'm playing a fender jazz bass.

That's funny about the tempo changes. I'll have to remember that.

Quirky and entertaining! I expect nothing less from you.

A very interesting set of lyrics and I think you probably speak for most of us.

Nicely done as well :)

Cheers

You can really come up with unique lyric ideas. I wish I had your imagination in that way. Your drumming is very impressive. Do you play them in a band? You should!

I could really imagine Spinal Tap doing this song. And it's really how I feel too. I don't know why, but at the end I kind of expected a drum roll and then lead into some kind of jam while fading out. That's probably just me though.

Thanks for listening John. I’m not in a band. I’ve tried repeatedly over the years to pull one together but it hasn’t meant to be. Therefore I was forced to learn how to play the drums out of necessity so I could record. I enjoy playing so I haven’t taken the time to learn to program drums.
