Blue Cat Re-Guitar Plugin

Post by Jim_Fogle » Thu Aug 01, 2019 2:41 pm

Blue Cat is a prominent developer of computer plugins. Blue Cat claims their new plugin, Re-Guitar, lets you emulate many kinds of guitar tones (electric or acoustic), regardless of the solid body guitar model used for recording. Thanks Jim, looks interesting. I think I'll try the demo out and see what it's like.

I downloaded the demo.

I'm not sure about it yet.

It's quite subtle.

I wasn't very impressed by the acoustic models but I'm wondering if I record a few pieces and play them back it might feel different when I'm just listening rather than playing.

When I watched the video and listened to the demo I thought the acoustic tones have a lot of piezo pickup sound to it. For example, the Dreadnought body sounds more like one of the original plastic body Ovation guitars amplified using the onboard pickup. I've noticed several acoustic guitar plug-ins that create modeled output versus output from samples have this issue.

I thought the electric demos were very good.

I found the same with the acoustics. The sounds aren't unpleasant but not really acoustic. As you say, the electrics aren't bad at all. All very subtle and I'm not sure when I'd use them but it's tempting.

A bit more experimenting I think.

Thanks for the link though.

No more experimenting.

I fired up Logic this morning. It loads the last song being worked on. In this case it was the test project for Re-Guitar.

Unfortunately it wouldn't work at all. I did all the normal things and trashed files and restarted but to no avail.

I spent most of the morning trying all sorts of things.

In the end I managed to revert to an earlier version of the test without the plug-in set and it's OK now.

I don't know what was happening but Re-Guitar was the only thing that could have caused the problem.

I won't be loading it again and have reported it to Blue Cat.

It's a pity as I was on the point of buying it as I liked the electric models :(

Amazingly enough Blue Cat responded to my email.

They said there could be a problem and suggested a work around. They also said they would be looking at the "bug".

I don't know if it will work but it was good to get a response and makes me think favourably of them.

dickl,

Do you think the plugin test period expired? I'm wondering if that might be a contributing factor.

No, it's a bug in the demo according to Blue Cat. They've given me a work around but assure me the full version is fine.
