Weird Issues With my H4n

Post by RobCharles1981 » Thu Nov 09, 2017 6:20 pm

Hi Guys,

Can anyone offer me advice please?

Been having recent issues with my ZoomH4n and use a Matched Pair of Rode NT5's on this unit and recently I have been experiencing a drop in the audio volume from one of the Mics (When in Audacity) The Sound File is quieter than the other.

I use this Unit and the Mics to Record an Organ in a Church.

So I decided to get them both checked out.

Rode told me there where no issues on the Mics, and Zoom said that one of the amps on the Socket had failed and I had that replaced so the issue looked to have been resolved.

So I had the unit Back and headed out to the Church to do some testing and I'm editing the Audio in Audacity and as you can see from the attached file the top track there are "pips", any idea what this is all about? Bearing in mind I use a Boom Microphone Stand and a Rode Stereo Bar for the Rode Mics.

Any ideas would be valued
Cheers
Rob

An audio clip might be more helpful, but there's sure something wrong!

I assume you've done the usual debugging by trying different cables, swapping the mics, to see if the problem stays in the same channel/track or moves, i.e., to identify the problem as being in the Zoom or some other component?

And, just a clarification - do you record into the Zoom and then copy the files to the computer? Do you hear this in the headphones while recording (assuming you monitor that way)?
