Connecting g5n to mustang 3 v2

Post by godfather » Thu May 31, 2018 2:57 pm

just bought the G5n and really liking it. Is it possible to connect to my Mustang 3 V2 so that I can us patches from the G5N instead of the Mustang presets. If so how would I connect them, I’m a total noob at this. I plan to use headphones for practice as well as for jamming (no headphones of course), not sure if that makes a diffrence in the connection

Hello godfather and welcome to the forum. Sorry to have to ask but ... What exactly is a Mustang 3 v2?

Hi godfather,

Thanks for taking time to reply. Now I understand better what you're trying to do. The basic signal chain will be from guitar to g5n to amplifier. Both the g5n and Mustang 3 V2 have effects. You don't want the effects from one machine to fight the effects of the other machine so you will need to determine which device has the effect sounds you want to use.

Since the g5n will be at your feet you will need a short cable to connect between the output of your guitar and the input jack of the g5n. You'll need a second cable to connect from the "L" output of the g5n to the input of the Mustang 3 v2.

One issue you'll likely grow weary of is the g5n has two outputs "L" and "R", likely because some of the effects are stereo, while the Mustang has only a single input. So any time you use a stereo effect on the g5n you can hear the effect if you have your headphones plugged into the g5n but only half of the stereo signal will be played by the amp. You can get around that issue somewhat by using a "Y" cable that has two connections on one side and a single connection on the other side. However be aware using such a cable can cause an impedance mismatch that degrades the sound.
